The Skyspan Sliding Glass Roof is used to provide natural light and ventilation to large areas needing access to the outdoors in ideal conditions, and the necessary protection in adverse conditions. Providing many options for outdoor entertainment areas or access to rooftop viewing areas and terraces otherwise unattainable.

Each system is individually designed and fabricated with a precision-welded aluminium or steel frame, ensuring structural integrity, watertight performance, and seamless architectural integration.

Utilising high-performance double-glazed glass, the GSA complies with AS1288:2021 Glass in Buildings (including Section 6 – Overhead Glazing), ensuring maximum safety, durability, and compliance in all applications.

The system can also be engineered to meet AS/NZS 1170 series structural standards for project-specific performance requirements.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is the Glass Sliding Roof available as supply only?

No. The Glass Sliding Roof is provided as a supply and install system only.

Due to the scale, structural integration, waterproofing detailing, and compliance requirements of flat glass roof systems, Skyspan undertakes installation to ensure the system performs as designed and certified. This approach protects structural performance, waterproofing integrity, and warranty outcomes.

Does the Glass Sliding Roof require project-specific engineering or certification?

Yes. The Glass Sliding Roof is an opening glazed roof access system and is typically supplied with project-specific engineering certification where required.

Is the GSlass Sliding Roof designed for maintenance access or foot traffic?

The Glass Sliding Roof is trafficable for cleaning and maintenance purposes only, in accordance with AS1288:2021 Section 6, which requires the glass to support a 1.1 kN live load incidental to maintenance.

The GSA is not designed for foot traffic.
If foot traffic across glass is required, a Trafficable Glass Floor (TGF) must be specified as an engineered solution.

Should I choose single glazing or double glazing?

In most cases, double glazing is strongly recommended, particularly when the skylight is installed over an internal, conditioned space.

Single-glazed glass skylights comply with AS1288:2021 for overhead glazing and are suitable for some applications. However, single glazing is prone to condensation, especially during cooler months or when there is a temperature difference between the internal and external environment.

Condensation can cause water droplets to form on the underside of the glass and drip below, which is often mistaken for a leak even though the skylight is performing correctly.

Double glazing significantly reduces the risk of condensation, improves thermal performance, and enhances occupant comfort. For this reason, Skyspan generally recommends double glazing for habitable spaces, trafficable glass floors, and any skylight installed above internal areas.

Is the Glass Sliding Roof considered a non-combustible roof element?

Yes. The Glass Sliding Roof is manufactured from non-combustible materials, including aluminium, steel, and laminated glass.

As such, it provides a non-combustible external lining to the roof, and non-combustibility certification can be issued to support building approval where required.
