FAQ's

Product Information

Below are some common questions about Skyspan products

Are Skyspan products compliant with the NCC if they are not CodeMark certified?

Yes. CodeMark is not a legal requirement under the National Construction Code (NCC).

Skyspan products demonstrate NCC compliance through alternative acceptable evidence, including:

  • AS4285:2019 Rooflights test reports

  • AS1288:2021 Glass in Buildings compliance

  • AS/NZS 1170 structural engineering (project-specific where required)

  • Cyclone wind and debris impact testing (where applicable)

  • Project-specific engineering certification or Performance Solutions

These forms of evidence are routinely accepted by building surveyors and certifiers across Australia.

What standards do Skyspan products comply with?

Depending on the product and application, Skyspan systems are designed and tested to comply with:

  • AS4285:2019 – Rooflights
  • AS1288:2021 – Glass in Buildings (including Section 6 Overhead Glazing)
  • AS/NZS 1170 – Structural design actions (project-specific systems)
  • Cyclone wind region testing (physical laboratory testing where applicable)

Compliance documentation can be supplied to support approvals.

Are Skyspan skylights non-combustible?

Skyspan glass skylights are manufactured from non-combustible materials, including aluminium, steel, and laminated or toughened glass.

As such, they provide a non-combustible external roof lining, and a non-combustibility certificate can be issued for certifier use once installed, where required.

Are Skyspan products suitable for bushfire-prone areas?

Many Skyspan products are suitable for bushfire-prone areas, including systems rated to BAL-29.

BAL suitability depends on:

  • product type
  • roof pitch
  • glazing specification
  • ember guard requirements (where applicable)

Skyspan can confirm BAL compliance during the specification stage.

Do you manufacture custom sizes?

Yes. Custom manufacture is fundamental to Skyspan’s offering.

Most skylights, glass roofs, roof windows, and access hatches are manufactured to suit:

  • custom dimensions
  • specific roof constructions
  • architectural detailing
  • project-specific structural requirements

Final sizing is assessed against glazing limits, structural performance, and compliance requirements.

Can Skyspan provide project-specific engineering certification?

Yes. Where required, Skyspan can arrange project-specific engineering certification and Performance Solutions, including:

  • structural glass engineering
  • AS/NZS 1170 load assessment
  • documentation for NCC compliance

Engineering is issued on a project-specific basis and may involve an additional cost.

Are engineering certificates and test reports publicly available?

No. Engineering certificates and compliance documentation are project-specific and confidential.

They are issued to the project team and relevant certifier and are not to be published or redistributed without written consent from Skyspan.

Shipping & Returns

Below are some common questions about shipping, returns, and exchanges

Do you supply Australia-wide or internationally?

Skyspan supplies products Australia-wide.

International supply is not standard, but may be considered on a project-specific basis.

What should I do when my order is delivered?

All goods must be inspected on delivery.

You should check for:

  • damage
  • shortages
  • incorrect items

Any issues must be reported in writing within seven (7) days of delivery. Failure to notify Skyspan within this timeframe may affect your ability to make a claim

What happens if my goods arrive damaged or defective?

If goods are found to be damaged or defective, Skyspan will:

  • replace the goods and cover associated freight costs, or
  • if replacement is not possible, provide a refund including freight paid

To lodge a claim, email sales@skyspan.com.au with:

  • your invoice number
  • a description of the defect or damage
  • supporting photos where possible

Skyspan may require the opportunity to inspect the goods before resolution.

Can I return goods if I change my mind or order the wrong product?

No. Skyspan does not accept returns for change of mind or incorrect ordering, except where the issue is due to Skyspan’s negligence or incorrect information supplied by us.

Most Skyspan products are custom manufactured or made to order, which means they cannot be resold or restocked.

Are there any circumstances where non-defective goods may be returned?

In limited circumstances, Skyspan may, at its absolute discretion, accept a return of non-defective goods.

If approved:

  • a handling and restocking fee of 20% of the goods value will apply
  • the customer is responsible for all freight costs

Goods made to order cannot be returned under any circumstances.

Can custom-made or made-to-order products be returned?

No. Custom-made and made-to-order products are non-returnable.

This includes products manufactured to custom sizes, finishes, glazing specifications, or project-specific requirements.

Who is responsible for freight damage?

If goods are damaged in transit, this must be reported within the required timeframe so Skyspan can lodge a claim with the freight provider.

Failure to inspect and report damage within seven (7) days may result in the claim being declined.
