FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Can the GCSL be manufactured to custom sizes?

Yes. The GCSL can be custom manufactured to suit non-standard dimensions where required.

Many customers specify custom widths or lengths to suit existing roof openings, replacement skylights, or architectural layouts.

Can the GSL be supplied for projects in bushfire-prone areas?

Yes. The GCSL complies with AS4285 and AS1288, and suitability for bushfire-prone areas depends on the required BAL rating.

For BAL-rated projects, the required BAL level should be confirmed at enquiry stage so the appropriate glazing and configuration can be specified.

Should I choose single glazing or double glazing?

In most cases, double glazing is strongly recommended, particularly when the skylight is installed over an internal, conditioned space.

Single-glazed glass skylights comply with AS1288:2021 for overhead glazing and are suitable for some applications. However, single glazing is prone to condensation, especially during cooler months or when there is a temperature difference between the internal and external environment.

Condensation can cause water droplets to form on the underside of the glass and drip below, which is often mistaken for a leak even though the skylight is performing correctly.

Double glazing significantly reduces the risk of condensation, improves thermal performance, and enhances occupant comfort. For this reason, Skyspan generally recommends double glazing for habitable spaces, trafficable glass floors, and any skylight installed above internal areas.

What flashing shape is supplied as standard?

As standard, the CSL is supplied with a square flashing to suit a square external roof penetration.

Where required, circular external flashings can be manufactured to suit circular roof openings.
Circular flashings are custom items and are supplied at an additional cost, which is allowed for at quotation stage.
