The Skyspan Glass Roof Access Hatch (GSLHB) combines rooftop accessibility with refined architectural design. Commonly installed above stairways leading to roof terraces, it provides smooth, effortless access via electric actuators, while the glazed lid doubles as a glass roof when closed — maintaining a clean, contemporary appearance from both inside and out.

Constructed from powder-coated aluminium with double-glazed safety glass, the GSLHB offers exceptional strength, insulation, and weather performance. The system is fully trafficable for cleaning and maintenance, and can be engineered on a project-specific basis to meet additional structural requirements.

Complies with AS4285:2019 Rooflights and AS1288:2021 Glass in Buildings, and assessed for 2 kPa uniform wind action and 1.1 kN live load under AS/NZS 1170.1.
Manufactured in Australia and backed by a 7-year warranty on the unit, 3 years on electrical components, and 1 year on battery.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Does the GSLHB require project-specific engineering or certification?

Yes. The GSLHB is an opening glazed roof access system and is typically supplied with project-specific engineering certification where required.

For larger openings, roof terraces, or commercial projects, this is provided as a Performance Solution to support NCC compliance and building surveyor approval.

Is the GSLHB CodeMark certified?

CodeMark certification is not a legal requirement under the NCC.

The GSLHB is supported through alternative acceptable evidence, including:

- AS4285 rooflight testing
- AS1288 glazing compliance
- Project-specific engineering certification where required

This documentation is routinely accepted by building surveyors under the Performance Solution pathway.

Is the GSLHB considered trafficable?

The GSLHB is trafficable for maintenance and cleaning loads only (1.1 kN). It is not designed for foot traffic across the glass.

If a project requires foot traffic across glass, a Trafficable Glass Floor (TGF) is required, which is engineered and certified specifically for that purpose.

Is the GSLHB considered a non-combustible roof element?

Yes. The GSLHB is manufactured from non-combustible materials, including aluminium, steel, and laminated glass.

As such, it provides a non-combustible external lining to the roof, and non-combustibility certification can be issued to support building approval where required.

When is the GSLHB the appropriate solution?

The GSLHB is typically specified when:

- Roof access is required through a glazed element
- A higher architectural finish is required than a metal access hatch
- Compliance documentation and engineering support are critical
- The opening is part of a roof terrace, stair termination, or service access
