The Skyspan TGF is a structural trafficable glass floor skylight designed to safely illuminate the space below while supporting live pedestrian loads above. Engineered for performance and aesthetics, it brings natural light into lower levels, corridors, basements, and internal rooms where traditional skylights are not possible.

Each unit is custom-built with a laminated, double-glazed glass assembly and a fully welded frame, engineered to withstand 2 kPa imposed floor loads and certified to AS1288 and AS/NZS 1170 requirements for glass flooring. The result is a sleek, durable, walkable skylight that delivers both daylight and architectural impact.

Is the TGF designed to be walked on as a floor?

Yes. The TGF is engineered as a structural, trafficable glass floor system, designed to safely support pedestrian loads when installed in accordance with project-specific engineering.

It is suitable for areas such as walkways, bridges, roof terraces, mezzanines, and internal floors where daylight transmission is required below.

How is slip resistance addressed on the TGF?

Slip resistance is provided through specified surface treatments, selected based on the application and environment.

Different anti-slip options are available to suit:

- Internal vs external use
- Wet or exposed locations
- Maintenance and cleaning requirements

Does the TGF require engineering approval?

Yes. The TGF is a structural building element and must be supported by project-specific engineering.

Glass specification, panel sizing, support conditions, and load performance are coordinated with the project structural engineer to ensure compliance with applicable Australian Standards.

What load is the Trafficable Glass Floor engineered to support?

The TGF glass panels are engineered and reviewed to support imposed floor actions of approximately 2.0 kPa / 1.8 kN, subject to project-specific design and certification.

This exceeds the incidental maintenance loads referenced in AS1288 for standard skylights and is appropriate for pedestrian use when engineered accordingly.

Should I choose single glazing or double glazing?

In most cases, double glazing is strongly recommended, particularly when the skylight is installed over an internal, conditioned space.

Single-glazed glass skylights comply with AS1288:2021 for overhead glazing and are suitable for some applications. However, single glazing is prone to condensation, especially during cooler months or when there is a temperature difference between the internal and external environment.

Condensation can cause water droplets to form on the underside of the glass and drip below, which is often mistaken for a leak even though the skylight is performing correctly.

Double glazing significantly reduces the risk of condensation, improves thermal performance, and enhances occupant comfort. For this reason, Skyspan generally recommends double glazing for habitable spaces, trafficable glass floors, and any skylight installed above internal areas.
