The Skyspan Metal Access Hatch provides safe, reliable access to roof spaces for both commercial and residential projects. Built from Zincalume® steel for strength and longevity, it includes gas struts, lockable latches, and an internal pull handle as standard.

Available in three models:

  • MH — Single-skin model

  • MHD — Double-skin insulated model

  • MHH — Heavy-duty model for large or high-traffic applications

Note: The MH, MHD and MHH models are not designed for cyclone-rated or high-wind areas. In these environments, if the lid is left open and unattended, uplift forces can cause the lid to act as a sail and potentially be torn off. For high-wind and cyclone-prone locations, please refer to the MSH Sliding Hatch or MHC Cyclone Hatch models, which are specifically designed for these conditions.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Are hatch sizes listed as the clear opening or the overall external size?

Hatch sizes are listed as the clear opening size, not the overall external frame dimension.

When ordering, it’s important to allow for the frame, flashing, or hob dimensions around the opening. For replacements or concrete hobs, providing both internal and external measurements will ensure the correct hatch is supplied.

Can the MH, MHD, or MHH be custom made?

Yes. All metal roof access hatches can be custom manufactured.

- Custom sizes are commonly required for:
- Existing hobs or openings
- Concrete roofs
- Large plant access
- Non-standard roof layouts

Custom hatches are assessed and quoted based on size, model (MH / MHD / MHH), and roof condition.

What is the difference between MH, MHD, and MHH?

MH – Single-skin hatch for general roof access
MHD – Double-skin insulated hatch for improved thermal and condensation performance
MHH – Heavy-duty hatch designed for larger openings, frequent access, or high-traffic use

The correct model depends on opening size, usage frequency, and performance requirements.

Can the hatch be supplied with hinges on a specific side?

Hatches can be hinged on the short side or long side, depending on access direction, roof pitch, and site constraints. This should be confirmed at order stage, especially where clearance or fall direction matters.

Are the hatches lockable, and what security is provided as standard?

Yes. Skyspan metal roof access hatches are supplied with lockable latches as standard.

Additional security options, such as upgraded locking arrangements or external locking provisions, can be assessed where required, depending on model and application.
