FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What are the benefits of a flexible shaft system?

A flexible shaft allows the skylight to be positioned independently of the ceiling location, making installation possible where trusses, services, or offsets would otherwise prevent it.

Key benefits include:
- Greater installation flexibility
- Minimal structural impact
- Ideal for retrofit and constrained roof spaces
- Faster installation compared to rigid shaft construction

Where does a flexible shaft perform best?

Flexible Shaft Kits are best suited to:

- Hallways and corridors
- Bathrooms and ensuites
- Laundries, pantries, and robes
- Retrofit installations

They provide practical, usable daylight to spaces that would otherwise rely solely on artificial lighting.

Is there a practical limit to shaft length or complexity?

Yes. While the shaft is flexible, shorter and simpler runs always perform better.
Excessive length or multiple tight bends will reduce light delivery. For best results, the shaft should be routed as directly as possible with smooth curves rather than sharp turns.

Is a Flexible Shaft Kit suitable for new builds as well as retrofits?

Yes. While commonly used in retrofit situations, Flexible Shaft Kits are equally suitable for new builds where ceiling layouts or roof structures don’t align with skylight locations.

They offer design flexibility without requiring structural changes to achieve roof-to-ceiling alignment.

When is a Flexible Shaft Kit the right skylight solution?

A Flexible Shaft Kit is the right choice when:

- Structural constraints limit straight-line access
- Minimal disruption to the roof and ceiling is preferred
- The goal is practical daylighting rather than architectural feature lighting
- The skylight is servicing smaller or secondary spaces
