FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What type of spaces is a Sunpipe best suited to?

Sunpipes are best suited to small or enclosed spaces where a full skylight isn’t practical, such as hallways, bathrooms, pantries, laundries, and walk-in robes.

They’re designed to deliver usable daylight to areas that would otherwise have no access to natural light, rather than to light large open-plan rooms.

How does a Sunpipe differ from a traditional skylight?

A Sunpipe captures daylight at roof level and transfers it to the ceiling diffuser through a highly reflective tube, rather than through an open shaft or large roof opening.

This allows daylight to be delivered with minimal roof penetration and minimal ceiling disruption, making it especially effective for tight roof spaces and retrofit installations.

Does the length or layout of the pipe affect performance?

Yes. Light output is affected by:

- Total pipe length
- Number of bends
- Bend angle
- Shorter, straighter runs deliver the best results. While bends are possible, excessive length or sharp turns will noticeably reduce light transmission.

Is a Sunpipe intended to replace general room lighting?

No. A Sunpipe is designed to supplement natural light, not replace artificial lighting entirely.

It significantly reduces the need for daytime lighting in smaller spaces, but most rooms will still require electric lighting for night-time or low-light conditions.

When is a Sunpipe the right solution?

A Sunpipe is the right choice when:

- Roof space is constrained
- Structural changes are undesirable
- The space is small or enclosed
- The goal is functional daylight rather than architectural impact
- A quick, low-impact installation is preferred
