Are Domelinks trafficable in any way?

No. Domelink skylights are not trafficable, including for cleaning or maintenance.
They must not be walked on or loaded under any circumstances.
Roof access, cleaning, and maintenance must be carried out around the skylight, not on it.

Acrylic vs Polycarbonate

Skyspan dome skylights are supplied with acrylic domes as standard, however polycarbonate domes can be specified on request.

Acrylic is the preferred standard material because:
- it has excellent long-term UV stability
- it resists yellowing, clouding, and embrittlement over time
- it maintains clarity and structural integrity for longer periods in Australian conditions
- it offers very good impact resistance for skylight applications

Polycarbonate is:
- initially stronger and more impact resistant than acrylic
- often chosen where short-term impact resistance is the primary concern

However, polycarbonate is more susceptible to UV degradation over time. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause it to:
- discolour or haze
- lose strength
- become brittle earlier than acrylic

For this reason, acrylic generally offers a longer service life for roof-mounted skylights exposed to constant UV radiation.

Are Domelinks suitable for bushfire-prone areas?

Domelinks are suitable for low BAL-rated areas under AS3959.

For projects in higher BAL zones, Skyspan recommends confirming requirements early, as glass skylights or alternative systems may be more appropriate depending on the BAL level and roof configuration.

Can Domelinks be used on very low-pitch or flat roofs?

Yes — this is one of their key advantages.

The domed profile naturally sheds water, making Traditional Skylights well suited to low-pitch and near-flat roofs where flat glass skylights may not be appropriate without additional detailing.

This makes them a common choice for commercial, industrial, and large-area roofs.

When should a Domelinks be chosen instead of a glass skylight?

Traditional Skylights are typically the right choice when the priority is:

- Cost-effective daylighting
- Low-pitch or flat roof conditions
- Diffused, glare-free light
- Large quantities across wide roof areas
- Robust, low-maintenance performance

For architectural feature spaces, occupied rooms with strict thermal requirements, or projects needing certification for higher performance, glass skylights may be more suitable.
