The Skyspan MHX is a premium oversized roof access hatch, engineered for reliable, high-performance access to plant decks, service zones, and large commercial rooftops.
Built to accommodate substantial openings — up to 3000 × 5000 mm — the MHX combines strength, insulation, and weather protection in a single robust unit.

Constructed from a precision-welded aluminium frame and double-skin insulated lid, it features heavy-duty gas struts, dual lockable latches, and EPDM gasket seals for superior weather-tightness.
The EPS-FR insulated core achieves an approximate R-value of 3.6 – 3.7 m²·K/W, minimising thermal and acoustic transfer between roof and interior spaces.

Finished in the full Colorbond® range, the MHX is suitable for maintenance access, light foot traffic, and craning plant equipment through the roof.
Complies with AS4285:2019 Rooflights and can be engineered to the AS/NZS 1170 series standards on a project-specific basis.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

What applications is the MHX designed for?

The MHX is designed for large-format roof access in commercial and industrial projects.

- It is typically specified for:
- Plant decks and service zones
- Large commercial rooftops
- Maintenance access where oversized openings are required
- Situations where electric operation is not necessary or preferred

How is the MHX operated?

The MHX is manually operated and assisted by heavy-duty gas struts to allow controlled, stable opening and closing.

This provides reliable access without the need for electrical power or control systems, making it suitable for sites where simplicity and robustness are prioritised.

Is the MHX fire rated?

The MHX is not supplied as a fire-rated (FRL) hatch.

It is constructed from non-combustible materials and incorporates a double-skin insulated lid with fire-retardant (EPS-FR) insulation. Where fire-rating or FRL requirements apply, suitability must be assessed on a project-specific basis in consultation with the project fire engineer.

Can the MHX be used for lifting plant or equipment through the roof?

Yes. The MHX is commonly specified where plant, equipment, or large components need to be lifted through the roof during installation or maintenance.

The heavy-duty frame, insulated lid construction, and stable manual operation make it suitable for controlled craning operations, subject to project-specific structural and lifting assessments.

When is the MHX the right solution?

The MHX is the right choice when:

- Very large roof openings are required
- Manual operation is preferred over electric actuation
- Access is required for plant, equipment, or maintenance personnel
- Thermal and acoustic separation is important
- A robust, low-complexity access solution is required for a commercial project
