The Skyspan GCXL & GCXXL is a large-format circular glass skylight designed to deliver expansive daylight with a striking architectural form. Manufactured in Australia, it features a fully welded aluminium frame and high-performance laminated or double-glazed circular glass, making it suitable for premium residential, commercial, and public applications.

The glazing is trafficable for cleaning and maintenance, meeting AS1288 requirements for overhead installations.

Thermal Break System

The GXL incorporates a thermally broken, self-draining frame system engineered to reduce thermal bridging and support Section J and NatHERS performance requirements.
An integrated condensation gutter and weep-hole drainage system manages moisture at the frame, improving durability and preventing internal water ingress.

Key Benefits

  • Thermal Break Frame — reduces heat transfer and helps maintain interior temperature stability.

  • Condensation Management — gutter and weep holes control moisture and protect internal finishes.

  • Energy Performance — improves thermal efficiency and reduces HVAC load in conditioned spaces.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Is the GCXL trafficable?

The GCXL is trafficable for cleaning and maintenance purposes only, in accordance with AS1288:2021 Section 6, which requires glazing to support a 1.1 kN live load incidental to maintenance.

The GCXL is not designed for pedestrian traffic. Where foot traffic across glass is required, a Trafficable Glass Floor (TGF) must be specified as an engineered solution.

How does the GCXL differ from standard circular skylights?

The GCXL uses the same patented thermally broken, self-draining system as the GXL range, incorporating:

- a thermal break between internal and external framing
- an integrated condensation gutter and weep system
- a self-draining frame design

This significantly reduces condensation risk and thermal transfer compared to non-thermally broken circular skylights, particularly over conditioned interior spaces.

Is the GXL suitable for bushfire-prone areas and non-combustible roof requirements?

Yes. The GCXL is manufactured from non-combustible materials, including aluminium, steel, and laminated glass, and provides a non-combustible external roof lining.

The GCXL is BAL-29 compliant as standard where the roof pitch is 18° or greater (without an ember guard).
For roof pitches below 18°, an ember guard is required to maintain BAL-29 compliance.
For BAL-12.5, no ember guard is required.

What flashing shape is supplied as standard?

As standard, the GCXL is supplied with a square apron flashing to suit a square external hob, with a circular internal penetration.

Circular external flashings can be supplied where required, however these are custom and incur an additional cost, which will be allowed for at quotation stage.

Can external films or aftermarket tints be applied to GCXL glass?

External films or aftermarket-applied tints are not recommended, as they can cause thermal stress and will void the glass warranty.

If solar control or visual tinting is required, this should be specified at manufacture using:

- factory-selected tinted glass
- tinted interlayers
- Low-E or higher-performance glazing options
